To mark the first International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations, the National Museum of Art and the Chinese Embassy in Romania will co-host a special cultural event entitled „Conversation and Connection – Music Connects the World”.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 26th of June 2025, starting 15:00, at the headquarter of the National Museum of Art in Romania and will feature a guided tour in the Gallery of Oriental Art, China Exhibition Hall, followed by a lecture and a live performance of traditional Chinese Guqin.
Recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Guqin is a seven-stringed zither with a history of over 3000 years. Once known as a refined pursuit of Chinese scholars in ancient China, along with calligraphy, painting and the game of Go, Guqin remains a powerful symbol of Chinese philosophy and aesthetics. Its meditative and poetic sound continues to inspire audiences around the world. The event will be conducted by two acclaimed artists from China:
Wang Peng – a renowned Guqin performer, luthier and composer, he is celebrated for his precise and exquisite technique, deeply poetic expression and vigorous, resonant tone of his playing. His music emphasizes meditative introspection and emotional impact, guiding his listeners into a realm of sound energy, where music becomes a means of self-cultivation.
Liu Xiaogang – he integrates Guqin, bamboo flute, improvisation and visual art into a unique and cross-cultural expression. He has performed at major international festivals across five continents and collaborated with global artists in a wide range of musical and multimedia projects.
Do not miss out on the opportunity of a guided tour to the fabulous Gallery of Oriental Art and a profound journey of Guqin music – a bridge across time, space and civilization!
