The Embassy of India in Romania and Moldova is proud to announce the celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” — a timely reminder of the deep connection between individual well-being and planetary health.

The idea of an International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the 69th United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014. In a historic response, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 11, 2014, co-sponsored by a record 177 countries, declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The resolution recognizes yoga’s holistic approach to health and well-being, its importance in preventing diseases and managing lifestyle disorders, and its potential to foster peace, harmony, and balance in life. The UN Secretary-General hailed yoga’s inclusive nature and its alignment with the values of the United Nations, underscoring its benefits to physical, mental, and spiritual health.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” reflects the ancient Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family. Yoga cultivates not only physical strength and mental clarity but also mindfulness, which leads individuals toward sustainable, compassionate, and healthy lifestyles. As we care for ourselves, we naturally begin to care for our planet.
