Giles Portman, British Ambassador to Romania: “ This weekend, I ran the Bucharest 10k for the amazing HOSPICE Casa Sperantei, a Romanian NGO with British roots, which offers free-of-charge palliative care services for incurable patients with life-limited diagnostics. Together with over 1,000 people running just for #TeamHOSPICE, we supported its newest project – building #SpitalulSperanței, a hospital dedicated to pediatric palliative care. In Romania, there are over 22,000 children suffering from incurable and life-limiting illnesses – and only 40 palliative care beds available for them. So it’s a great cause to support. Next race October!”
Over €65,000 raised by sponsors, donors, and runners for the new pediatric palliative care hospital
This year’s edition also saw the participation of Giles Portman, the British Ambassador to Romania, and Rebecca Shah, the Deputy Ambassador. Both took part in the 10 km race.
This is not the first sports event attended by members of a diplomatic mission. At the 2023 edition, Therese Hydén, the Swedish Ambassador to Romania, also ran to support the cause of hope.
