The European Court of Auditors (ECA) would like to invite you to an online press briefing on its upcoming review on the state of the EU’s electricity grids, as well as the obstacles and the opportunities in making the EU’s electric system fit for future challenges. The briefing will be held in English and under embargo at 10:00 a.m. CEST on Tuesday 1 April.

We tend to take electricity for granted. Yet, behind the scenes, 11.3 million Km of electricity lines and cables bring electricity to 266 million EU customers. Is such an essential infrastructure ready for the EU’s energy needs and its green vision?
This briefing will answer to this and other questions. The auditors have examined the situation at EU and national level, checking whether planned investments are enough to modernise the EU’s ageing electric network and to support the energy transition. The auditors will also present strategies to optimise the electricity grid, as well as an overview of where funds come from – or may come from. You will have the chance to discuss all this with ECA Member Keit Pentus-Rosimannus and the ECA experts.
RSVP: Please let us know by 1.00 p.m. on Monday 31 March whether you intend to take part in the virtual briefing; we will then send you detailed instructions on how to connect.
To allow for an informed discussion, confirmed participants can receive an embargoed copy of the review and press release upon request ahead of the briefing. Both documents will be published on the ECA’s website on 1 April at 5.00 p.m. CEST.
