Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu: We will continue to focus on improving the quality of people’s lives, and on supporting investments, under the conditions of maintaining rigorous control over public expenditure, according to a press release from Romanian Government sent to NINE O’CLOCK.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu chaired today the consultations on the preparation of social and economic measures and the budget package for the year 2025, which took place at the meeting of the Tripartite National Council for Social Dialogue, held at the Victoria Palace
“ At the level of the Government, we have undertaken to ensure economic stability and responsibly manage the country’s resources. We will continue to focus on improving the quality of people’s lives, especially those with low incomes, and on supporting investments, under the conditions of maintaining rigorous control over public expenditure” stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
To substantiate the general consolidated budget for 2025, the Government will approve, through an emergency ordinance, fiscal-budgetary measures to streamline state spending and reduce the budget deficit. The fiscal-budgetary measures will have the impact of reducing budget expenses by 19 billion lei, equivalent to 1% of the Gross Domestic Product.
The Head of the Executive stated in this context that during the year 2024, approximately 69 billion lei – respectively 3.92% of GDP – represent essential investments and expenses, such as those with salary increases in the public sector – in the health system, education, defense, pension increases, payments for capping energy prices, health expenses, subsidies for public transport etc.
During the consultations, the employers’ representatives deemed necessary the measures to limit the state’s expenses and appreciated that a major and urgent effort is needed to combat tax evasion.
Attending the meeting with the representatives of employers and unions were Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Vice Prime Minister Marian Neacsu, Minister of Finance, Vice Prime Minister Tanczos Barna, Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin Barbu, Minister of Investments and European Projects, Marcel Bolos, Minister of Education and Research, Daniel-Ovidiu David, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emil Hurezeanu, Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Mircea Fechet, Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila.
