The Reception by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, of Foreign Ambassadors on the Occasion of the Presentation of Credentials

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, President of Romania Klaus Iohannis received, at the Cotroceni Palace, the accredited ambassadors presenting their credentials: Hilde Svartdal Lunde, the designated ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway; Manika Jain, the designated ambassador of the Republic of India; Noel Eugene Eusebio M. Servigon, the designated ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines; and Ri Sang-Rim, the designated ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
President Klaus Iohannis welcomed the Kingdom of Norway’s ambassador, Hilde Svartdal Lunde, and wished her success in fulfilling her mandate, assuring her of Romania’s full support. He highlighted the excellent level of bilateral relations, reflected in efficient collaboration across numerous fields and a positive dynamic in political-diplomatic contacts. The discussion addressed areas of sectoral cooperation with potential for development, focusing on energy, climate protection, and security and defense, given the status of Romania and Norway as NATO allies. Both parties expressed interest in expanding Romanian-Norwegian cooperation in areas of mutual interest. President Klaus Iohannis also appreciated the financial support provided to Romania through the European Economic Area and Norwegian Financial Mechanisms, recently extended until 2028, which gives an additional boost to bilateral economic relations.

In the meeting with the ambassador of the Republic of India, Manika Jain, President Klaus Iohannis conveyed that Romanian authorities would offer full support for a successful mandate. He emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship and noted that India is Romania’s main partner in South Asia. President Iohannis also commended the increasing level of economic exchanges between the two countries, with Romania expressing interest in intensifying trade relations. The Indian ambassador welcomed the recent celebration in 2023 of 75 years of diplomatic relations and highlighted the dynamic nature of cultural and educational ties.

During discussions with the ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines, Noel Eugene Eusebio M. Servigon, the President of Romania welcomed the decision by Philippine authorities to reopen their Embassy in Bucharest after a 12-year hiatus, underscoring the high potential of bilateral relations. President Klaus Iohannis emphasized that Romania would be a reliable partner for achieving positive outcomes for the Embassy’s activities. He also expressed Romania’s openness to intensifying trade and economic exchanges with the Philippines, including identifying new joint projects. Additionally, the Romanian side showed interest in closer collaboration in education and research.
