Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, accompanied by a governmental delegation comprising Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu and Minister of Defense Angel Tîlvăr, will be in Brussels on Monday, November 18, on a working visit. This visit will include the first meeting of a Romanian official with the new NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte.

“The meeting I will have tomorrow in Brussels with the new NATO Secretary-General confirms the importance that the North Atlantic Alliance and Mr. Mark Rutte attach to Romania and its defining role in defending the Eastern Flank. Romania’s NATO membership guarantees the security of the country and its citizens. The Romanian people are deeply committed to Euro-Atlantic values. Strengthening our relations with NATO and our partners in the European Union is a cornerstone for building our security, defence, and development,” stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
The Head of the Executive will also meet with Romanian experts and members of the Permanent Delegation of Romania to NATO.
The visit of the delegation led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to Brussels coincides with the start of a new institutional cycle at the European level, following the June elections for the European Parliament, as well as the adoption of the new Strategic Agenda for 2024–2029.
In this context, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is scheduled to meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, to discuss current European topics of interest, including advancing Romania’s prospects for full accession to the Schengen Area.
The agenda will also include a meeting with the President-elect of the European Council, António Costa.
The Romanian governmental delegation traveling to Brussels also includes the Honorary Advisor to Prime Minister and Vice President of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu.
