The electoral campaign for the first round of Romania’s 2024 presidential elections will officially begin on Friday, October 25, at 00:00 and will conclude on November 23 at 07:00, according to the decision issued by the Central Electoral Bureau last month. After the campaign ends, all forms of electoral propaganda are prohibited. Romanians will vote on November 24 to elect their new president, following Klaus Iohannis’ 10-year term in office. Voters will have to choose between 10 candidates representing political parties and 4 independent candidates.
If a second round is required, the campaign for that will begin no later than November 29 at 00:00 and end on December 7 at 07:00.
Candidates for the 2024 Presidential Elections
A total of 14 candidates have been officially validated, and the order on the ballot was announced by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on October 10. The list is led by Elena Lasconi and includes:

- Ana Birchall – Independent

- Ludovic Orban – Force of the Right
- Călin Georgescu – Independent
- Cristian Diaconescu – Independent
- Cristian Terheș – Romanian National Conservative Party
- Silviu Predoiu – National Action League Party
Voting Procedures and Ballot Design
The Central Electoral Bureau announced on October 13 that the design for the presidential ballots has been finalised. There will be three versions of the ballot: one for in-country voting, one for Romanians voting abroad, and one for postal voting.
Campaign Rules and Restrictions
According to the BEC, certain regulations must be strictly observed during the campaign. Approved materials include electoral posters, audio or video propaganda, advertisements in the written press, and online electoral materials such as brochures and flyers. However, discriminatory messages, incitements to hate or intolerance, and actions or statements that promote religious or ethnic defamation are strictly prohibited.
Once the campaign ends, any continued propaganda, such as the display or distribution of electoral materials or messages, is illegal. However, leaving electoral content online, in news articles, or on social media (without paid promotion) is not considered a violation.
