During the event, His Excellency delivered a powerful speech, emphasizing the strong and enduring relationship that Türkiye and Romania have cultivated over the years. He highlighted the significant partnership between the two nations, underscoring their shared responsibility for regional security. His Excellency also paid tribute to the Romanian army and its soldiers, noting the close cooperation between the Turkish and Romanian armed forces as they work together daily to ensure the safety and stability of the region.

His Excellency Özgür Kıvanç Altan’s eloquent speech can be read below:

“This year we celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the final battle of the Turkish War of Liberation.

The war was led by the great commander and our founding father Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The victory enabled the foundation of our Republic one year later, in 1923.  We set out to build a modern state and society.

In our endeavor, we have always faced major challenges. But, we constantly moved forward thanks to the dedication of the Turkish people.

Last year, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.

We will continue to work together for a stronger and prosperous Türkiye, thus, contributing to the stability of our region and world peace.

Tomorrow is the Romanian language day, therefore, I will now say a few words in Romanian also.

(The italicized and underlined part of the speech was delivered in Romanian)

Let me take this opportunity to underline the excellent level of relations between Türkiye and Romania.

We are friends. We are strategic partners. We are NATO Allies. We are neighbors, yes, but Türkiye and Romania are not only close to each other in terms of geography. We are tied to one another with our hearts.

We established the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council Mechanism in May during the historic visit of Prime Minister Ciolacu to Türkiye.

Turkish and Romanian armed forces are doing a lot together. Our armies, navies and air forces are working together in every field. “Umăr lângă umăr.”

Together, Türkiye and Romania assume responsibility for the security of our region. Our armed forces working together day by day to achieve this.

There is a great potential to improve this cooperation. We have the capacity for this.

High-level contacts between our Ministries of National Defense and militaries are at an all-time high.

Minister of National Defense of Romania, Angel Tilvar, has visited our country numerous times in the past one year. Also, our Minister of National Defense visited Romania in April.

Turkish Chief of General Staff visited Romania in December last year for the National Day of Romania. In return, Chief of Staff of Romanian Army General Vlad visited Türkiye in January.

Last but not least, our Commander of Naval Forces, together with one ADA Class corvette, participated in the Romanian Navy Day celebrations on 15 August.

With the spirit of “regional ownership”, Türkiye and Romania together with Bulgaria established the Black Sea Mine Counter-Measures Task Group-MCM Black Sea. Its first activation took place on 1 July 2024. On this occasion two Turkish ships visited the Constanta port in July.

I would also like to take this opportunity to honour Turkish military personnel who have made a great contribution to the development of relations between Türkiye and Romania.

Before concluding, I wish to extend my best wishes for the success of Romanian servicemen who are on duty for their country, for our Alliance and for our common ideals.

I also hope that stability and peace will prevail in our common region.

Mulțumim.

Teşekkür ederim.

Thank you!”
