Border authorities at Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest discovered 29,000 undeclared cigarettes, worth over 42,000 lei, in the checked luggage of two Bulgarian nationals who attempted to smuggle them into Romania illegally.
On August 26, 2024, around 09:00, border police officers at the Henri Coandă Airport Border Police Point and customs officials inspected two male Bulgarian citizens, aged 28 and 38, who had traveled from Turkey. After retrieving their checked luggage, they proceeded through the channel designated for passengers with nothing to declare.
The border police and customs officials conducted thorough checks of their luggage, during which they discovered a quantity of untaxed and origin-uncertain cigarettes that had not been declared. The inventory revealed a total of 29,000 cigarettes (1,450 packs), valued at 42,500 lei.
As a result, the entire quantity of cigarettes was seized by the customs authority, and the individuals were fined by the customs office.
