Significant drop at Bucharest Stock Exchange during August 5-9, 2024

The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) experienced a substantial decline of 5.22 billion RON in market capitalization, representing a drop of 1.52% for the period of August 5-9, 2024. During the same week, trading volume for stocks surged by 98.81% compared to the previous week.

According to data from BVB, market capitalization fell from 343.736 billion RON in the week of July 29-August 2 to 338.515 billion RON in the recent period.

The trading volume for stocks reached 447.364 million RON, a notable increase from 225.024 million RON in the prior week. Among the most traded stocks were OMV Petrom, with transactions amounting to 102.380 million RON and a price decrease of 4.13%. Additionally, Banca Transilvania and Hidroelectrica were also prominent, with transactions of 90.085 million RON (-4.21%) and 76.974 million RON (-0.08%), respectively.

On the positive side, the largest price increases were recorded by Roca Industry Holdingrock1 (+7.27%), AAGES (+5.56%), and Artego (+4.85%). Conversely, significant declines were observed in the stocks of Societatea de Construcții Napoca (-14.53%), Turism, Hoteluri, Restaurante Marea Neagră (-10.70%), and Teraplast (-9.35%).

This volatility highlights the complex dynamics of the Romanian capital market, reflecting significant fluctuations in both market capitalization and trading activity.
