Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminița Odobescu, had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea, Cho Tae-yul, on Thursday, April 24, 2024, on the occasion of the official visit of the Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis, to the Republic of Korea.

The two officials commended the excellent dynamics of the bilateral political dialogue over the past two years, at the level of Presidents, Prime Ministers and Ministers, as well as at the economic and cultural levels.
The Romanian and South Korean Foreign Ministers underlined the importance of the official visit of the Romanian President to the Republic of Korea for the consolidation and diversification of the bilateral Strategic Partnership established in 2008. The two senior officials also discussed concrete ways to advance bilateral cooperation in strategic areas, in line with the decisions taken by the Presidents of Romania and the Republic of Korea during the high-level discussions on April 23, 2024.
The two ministers discussed the main issues on the global and regional agenda, focusing on the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences, developments on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East. The Romanian Minister for Foreign Affairs reiterated the urgent need to support Ukraine and Moldova in the context of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression in Ukraine and presented Romania’s contribution to this effort.
The discussion between the two ministers revealed a high degree of convergence of views on topical issues, with both officials highlighting the connections between the security situations in the two regions and underlining the need for enhanced cooperation in the current geo-strategic context in order to ensure their stability and prosperity.
The two dignitaries discussed issues related to the intensification of coordination between the two countries on issues of common interest on the multilateral agenda and cooperation on the two countries’ candidacies in international fora.
It was also agreed to maintain the momentum of the bilateral political dialogue, including through exchanges of visits at Foreign Minister level and consultations on issues of common interest.
