USR Leader Accuses Premier of Manipulation Following BEC Decision

Catalin Drula, the leader of the USR party, has directly implicated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu in the recent decision made by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC). Drula asserts that Ciolacu’s influence led to the rejection of the protocol for the formation of the United Right Alliance, which comprises USR, PMP, and Forta Dreptei. Drula’s accusations target Eugen Tomac, citing his refusal to align with either PSD or PNL. He alleges that Toni Grebla, a prominent figure within BEC and affiliated with PSD, played a decisive role in the decision-making process, stating, “Ciolacu is like a dealer who tries to backtrack when caught.”

Moreover, Drula highlights the anomaly of BEC’s decision, noting that it goes against established precedents. He questions the essence of democracy when such obstructionism exists. Drula concludes by drawing parallels between Ciolacu’s alleged tactics and those of former leader Adrian Nastase, accusing Ciolacu of operating within a similar clandestine network.

Despite these setbacks, Drula remains resolute, emphasising that the fight is not for personal gain but for the millions of people relying on them. The rejection of the alliance’s protocol by BEC has prompted Drula to announce plans for legal recourse, intending to challenge the decision in the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ). Additionally, he calls upon citizens to join the signature-gathering event scheduled for Sunday in Piata Universitatii, aimed at supporting candidacies for the upcoming European and local elections on June 9th.
