Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu addressed the issue of George Simion, leader of AUR, being banned from entering Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Ciolacu stated that he had reviewed the confidential documents underlying the decisions of both countries. He emphasised that these decisions were well-founded administrative choices, hinting at the sensitivity of the matter due to undisclosed details. Ciolacu refrained from divulging further information, asserting that only the respective states had the authority to disclose such documents.

When asked about the implications of Simion’s ban, Ciolacu declined to comment on specifics, citing the confidential nature of the documents. However, he hinted at potential implications for Romania’s diplomatic relations, suggesting that Romania may have opted against aligning itself with Ukraine in certain matters. Regarding transparency, Ciolacu emphasised that the documents were not under Romanian jurisdiction and could only be made public by the relevant state authorities.

Regarding political alliances, Ciolacu reiterated the stance of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), affirming that any collaboration with AUR was off the table. This statement underlined the political distance between PSD and AUR, signalling a clear stance on potential future alliances or coalitions.
