Ciolacu Rejects Allegations of Interference in United Right Alliance Registration

Marcel Ciolacu dismissed accusations from representatives of the United Right Alliance that he opposed its registration with the Central Electoral Bureau, stating that the BEC comprises seven judges from the High Court. He clarified that he hasn’t attempted to contact these judges, nor does he know their identities, denying any involvement in the matter.

During an interview on Digi 24, Ciolacu was asked about the allegations made by the United Right Alliance representatives after the Central Electoral Bureau rejected their registration.

“I have never commented, since I entered politics, on any decision made by any magistrate or any decision of the Constitutional Court. This is how the rule of law is defended,” Ciolacu said. He criticized those who accused the PSD of covering up corruption, emphasizing the need for constructive actions.

Regarding the judges from the High Court who are part of the Central Electoral Bureau, Ciolacu stated, “Seven judges from the High Court are part of the Central Electoral Bureau. Did Ciolacu start calling these seven judges? I don’t know their names, ma’am.” He emphasised that each person performs their duty independently.

When asked if he had any involvement in the situation, Ciolacu responded, “But what involvement could I have? Am I a judge? If I were a member of the Central Electoral Bureau, I would come to you and explain in detail.” He denied any wrongdoing, stating that if there were issues, they were addressed by the judges.

Regarding the legality of the situation, Ciolacu expressed uncertainty, noting that it was up to the judges to decide. He rejected claims of interference and stressed the importance of allowing the justice system to function independently.
