Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu with the Delegation of the Georgian Parliament

Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu had on Monday, March 11, 2024, a meeting with the delegation of the Parliament of Georgia, led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations and member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Georgia-Romania.

Discussions focused on the state and prospects of bilateral relations, Georgia’s relations with the European Union and NATO, cooperation within international organizations and the Black Sea regional security agenda.

During the discussions, the Minister of Foreign Affairs commended the very good dynamics of the parliamentary dialogue and of the bilateral relations, underlining at the same time the common interest in expanding the economic cooperation between Romania and Georgia, which would reflect the level of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, launched in 2022.

Both sides welcomed the joint objectives and projects in areas of strategic interest such as connectivity, transport and energy. The Romanian official expressed satisfaction with the opening of the ferry line between Constanta and the Georgian port of Poti. She also mentioned the role of transport corridors through Georgia and Romania in the context of increased flows of goods and products on the Asia-Europe route, highlighting Georgia’s important role in connecting the EU to the Caspian Sea.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu reaffirmed Romania’s support for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic path, in the context of obtaining the status of EU candidate country. It has thus encouraged the intensification of the reform efforts embedded in these processes.
