An Infrastructure Project to Slash Gas Bills: Direct Connection of Bucharest Power Plants to Transgaz Network
Source: Evenimentul Zilei
In a bid to alleviate gas costs for Bucharest residents, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja unveiled a direct infrastructure project. The initiative proposes linking the city’s four Thermal Power Plants (CETs) directly to the Transgaz network, aiming to slash costs by 17 lei/MWh.
Burduja’s announcement on February 18 outlined a pragmatic solution to substantially reduce gas bills. Currently, ELCEN, Bucharest’s primary heat supplier, pays 4 lei/MWh for gas transportation through Transgaz pipelines and an additional 17 lei/MWh for the final leg. This new plan seeks to streamline the process, potentially saving 50 million euros annually.
The direct connection project, a collaboration between ELCEN, Transgaz, and the Ministry of Energy, has already secured a feasibility study contract. Burduja expressed appreciation for the rapid progress and estimated a three-year timeline for completion, promising tangible savings for each Bucharest resident.
