Pham Minh Chinh, the Prime Minister of Vietnam for nearly three years, is currently on an official visit to Romania. Chinh, an alumnus of a Romanian university, previously worked for over three years at the Embassy of Hanoi in Bucharest. The visit holds significance as Chinh has meetings scheduled with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, President Klaus Iohannis, and heads of both chambers of the Parliament.

Pham Minh Chinh, aged 65, is a prominent figure in the Communist Party and assumed the role of Prime Minister in April 2021. Holding the position of the President of the Central Organization Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party, he is the third-ranking official in the country, following the party’s general secretary and the country’s president.

Chinh, well-versed in the relations between the two countries, studied Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Construction in Bucharest from September 1977 to September 1984. He was actively involved in the Vietnamese community in Romania, serving as the secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Committee of the Communist Youth Union in Romania and later as the president of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in Romania.

Official Meetings and Delegation Details:
According to the official agenda, the Vietnamese Prime Minister is set to be received by his Romanian counterpart at the Victoria Palace on Monday morning. The Vietnamese Government delegation comprises 37 individuals, including the premier, his wife, five ministers, three deputy ministers, and even the governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Hong.
Scheduled Meetings:
At 3:00 PM, Prime Minister Chinh is scheduled to meet with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Palace. Economic Ties and Trade:
The visit takes place against the backdrop of growing trade relations between Vietnam and Romania, surpassing 400 million euros in 2022. This surge is attributed to the EU-Vietnam trade agreement signed on June 30, 2019, with exports reaching 56,784,000 euros and imports totaling 359,205,000 euros in the same year, as per data from the National Institute of Statistics.
