Boost in February: Good News for Romanian Pensioners with a Monthly Income of 2,000 Lei

Romanian citizens with pensions as low as 2,000 Lei per month have reason to rejoice. In 2024, social vouchers will be distributed in six instalments, offering financial relief for food and warm meals.

Six Instalments for Social Vouchers: February Distribution to Kickstart the Initiative

Minister Adrian Caciu revealed that citizens with a 2,000 Lei pension will receive vouchers for food and warm meals in six instalments throughout 2024. The first instalment is scheduled for the end of February, reflecting an adjustment to the eligibility threshold raised to 2,000 Lei, compared to the previous year’s 1,700 Lei. This adjustment ensures that all citizens with monthly incomes up to 2,000 Lei are eligible for the social vouchers.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection’s databases are undergoing updates following the pension indexation on January 1, 2024, facilitating the accurate determination of eligibility.

The subsequent card recharging for food and warm meals is anticipated in April, with a total of six instalments, each valued at 250 Lei. Approximately 2.5 million Romanian citizens are expected to benefit from these social vouchers.

“In 2024, we will have six instalments. The first instalment will be awarded at the end of February. I want to clarify that I will communicate publicly on this matter once the regulations are adopted—probably next week. The February instalment will be distributed after mid-February because we raised the eligibility threshold to 2,000 Lei from last year’s 1,700 Lei. This adjustment renews eligibility for all citizens with incomes up to 2,000 Lei,” stated Minister Adrian Caciu during a press conference.
