Romania, present at the OECD Meeting: “Network of Senior Officials from the Centers of Government”
Mircea Abrudean Leads Romania’s Representation at the OECD’s High-Level CoG Meeting
Mircea Abrudean, the Secretary-General of the Government, is participating from November 22nd to 23rd at the headquarters of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris in the event entitled “Network of Senior Officials from Centers of Government” (CoG).
The event represents one of the most important forums for high-level informal discussions on public policies at the OECD. This year, the meeting was organised by the General Secretariat of the Government of France under the theme “Promoting social cohesion at the expense of polarisation: the role of the Center of Government,” intended for the participation of Secretaries-General of Governments or, as the case may be, Chiefs of Prime Minister’s Cabinets.
The objectives of the network aim at sharing actions and models of best practices for establishing government priorities and coordinating public policies that can lead to improving the efficiency of the activities at the center of the Government.
The main topics of discussion this year focused on the role of the Centers of Government in strengthening democratic resilience, combating misinformation and manipulation, and promoting citizen involvement in the policy-making process.
Showcasing Romania’s Progress: From Open Governance to Civic Engagement
During the discussions, the growing potential of Romania in integrating the concept of open governance with the protection of civic space was presented. Over the past 30 years, Romania has made substantial progress in promoting open government reforms through the use of the Center of Government’s sectoral public policy agendas focused on citizens.
Addressing Global Challenges: Combatting Misinformation and Promoting Social Cohesion
The representation of the General Secretariat of the Government of Romania at the event contributes to demonstrating the commitment of the Romanian Government’s center to the goal of joining the OECD in general, as well as to the objectives of domestic policy regarding consolidated democracy, principles of open governance, and the need to increase the capacity of public administration to resist crises.
At the same time, the CoG event provided a new opportunity to connect with officials from the OECD Public Governance Committee (PGC).
