Navigating Priorities and Progress: Insights from the National Committee Meeting
The meeting, chaired by Marcel Ciolacu, the Prime Minister of Romania, was attended by representatives from the Romanian Government, including Marian Neacșu, Deputy Prime Minister; Mircea Abrudean, Secretary General of the Government; Mihai Ghigiu, Chief of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery; Adrian Câciu, Minister of Investments and European Projects; Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digitalisation; Marcel Boloș, Minister of Finance; Ligia Deca, Minister of Education; Florin-Ionuț Barbu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Mircea Fechet, Minister of Environment, Waters, and Forests; Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health; and Luca Niculescu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The National Committee reviewed the recent developments in the accession process and discussed priorities for the upcoming period.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu’s Vision for OECD Accession and Policy Advancements
In his opening remarks, the Head of the Executive reminded that “the OECD accession process supports the Government’s efforts to improve public policies in key areas such as digitalisation, public and corporate governance, and green economy.” The Prime Minister of Romania highlighted the stages in the technical alignment process with OECD standards, including questionnaires and assessment missions, with a focus on evaluations initiated at the level of the Organisation’s sectoral committees.
Strategic Communication in Focus: Enhancing Public Awareness on OECD Integration
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the need for effective public communication regarding the OECD accession process. This will be the subject of discussions in the immediate future, with a recognition that strategic communication is essential for addressing messages to the general public and specialists involved in the relationship with the OECD.
SGG’s Vital Role: Coordinating Technical Efforts for Seamless Accession
Mircea Abrudean also underscored the role of the SGG in coordinating the technical activities related to the accession process, working closely with the coordination team within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Advancing Collaboration: Romania’s Relationship with OECD Sectoral Committees
He further presented the advanced stage of activities in the relationship with the sectoral committees, for which the SGG serves as the national focal point in the relationship with the OECD: the Public Governance Committee, the Corporate Governance Committee (CGC), and the Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC).
