Romania helps the Hellenic Republic, a country hard hit by wildfires

Romania is dispatching to Greece another specialist module for extinguishing forest fires, thus meeting the Greek authorities’ request for support.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the National Emergency Management Committee (CNSU) convened today in a hybrid format by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu

56 firefighters, with intervention means, started traveling by land to Alexandroupolis – Feres. The duration of the mission is up to 10 days.

The decision was approved by the National Emergency Management Council (CNSU) taking into account a request from Greek authorities submitted on August 20, 2023, via the European Civil Protection Mechanism for the provision of international assistance in the context of forest fires in Greece with the prior information of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.

The intention of support from Romania was submitted on August 20, 2023, to the Emergency Response Coordination Centre of the European Commission (ERCC), through CECIS, by the Emergency Management Department via the Emergency Department General Inspectorate in its capacity as the national contact point.
