National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa and the Army Chief-of-Staff Nicolae Ciuca will attend a ceremony bestowing the first army officer rank to the graduates of King Ferdinand – 150 class of the Land Forces Academy based in Sibiu, starting 9 a.m. on Friday, a Ministry’s release to Agerpres said.
Graduating this year are 243 students (196 men and 47 women), who have been trained to take positions in the Romanian Land Forces and the Justice Ministry.
Nicolae Balcescu Land Forces Academy is an elite institution of the military higher education, boasting more than 168-year tradition; its mission is to train command officers for all forces, services and military specialties belonging to the Land Forces as well as for other beneficiaries. Organization management, economic-financial management and public administration are the three academic specialties the Academy is accredited for.
The class has been named after Romania’s King Ferdinand the Unifier, who ruled during 1914-1927 and during whose rule Romania knew its greatest territorial extent, to celebrate his 150th anniversary.
Dusa says Land Forces Academy graduates will be ‘future Romanian army chiefs in international bodies’
Romanian National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa is convinced the young Romanian officers will be the Romanian Army’s chiefs in the international bodies and proof of it is the fact some of them are already working in NATO commands.
“The Land Forces Academy in Sibiu is one of the most appreciated higher education institutions in the military sector not only at home but outside the borders too. It was declared a special institution, with a high training level. Starting today, you are officers of the Romanian Army. I am very proud of the young officers, because some of them are already part of NATO structures, be they commands or the structures of NATO General Secretariat and some of them were in command of sub-units in the operation theatres immediately after graduation”, Dusa said on Friday.
He emphasized there are a lot of youths who choose a military career in Romania.
“Training in the military higher education units is a special one and I am glad that very many youths choose the military education institutions and we have very many young people at the admission exams every year…. Here are 243 officers who go to the military units and I am convinced they will be the future generals, the future chiefs and representatives of the Romanian Army in the international institutions… There follows a time of training in the application units and afterwards they will go to the military units they have been assigned to”, Dusa said.
